The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), a sweeping piece of legislation encapsulating the core policy priorities of President Donald Trump’s second term, cleared its final hurdle in Congress on July 3.The House of Representatives held a session that day and voted 218-214 to pass the bill, which had been amended and approved by the Senate before returning to the House for reapproval.

In the vote, all 212 Democratic representatives (including Democratic-leaning independents) opposed the bill, joined by two of the 220 Republican representatives. However, the Republican majority minimized defections, securing the bill’s final passage.

The legislation, initially passed by the House last month, narrowly cleared the Senate on July 1. Due to amendments made during the Senate process, the House was required to hold a re-vote.

With this, the bill now awaits only President Trump’s signature to be officially enacted into law, meeting his set deadline for an Independence Day (July 4) signing.

The bill provides Trump with the momentum to advance key domestic priorities, including tax cuts, measures to curb illegal immigration, raising the debt ceiling, and dismantling policies from the Biden administration. This legislative victory equips Trump to fulfill his core campaign promises in the realm of domestic policy.
