Up to 200 high school students are expected to attend this year’s 50th annual NCCJ BROTHERHOOD-SISTERHOOD CAMP, August 19-25. The weeklong multiracial "summer camp" is designed to address racial tensions. At least 20-25 Korean-American teens are expected to attend from area public and private schools.
"Campers" experience a week unlike any offered at other summer camps. For six emotion-packed days, they confront racism, homophobia and other prejudices they find in themselves and in fellow campers. The camp will be held at a site in the San Bernardino Mountains.
Offered to the public since 1950, the program is sponsored by NCCJ - the National Conference for Community and Justice - a non-sectarian group founded in 1927 and known until recently as the National Conference of Christians & Jews.
Applications are still being taken, For information about the camp or other NCCJ programs, the public may call the group’s Los Angeles office:
(213)250-8787.
Fees and Deposit Info:
Part of most participants’ fee often is provided by their high school, school district or organization. The rest is subsidized by NCCJ scholarship funds from the Herb Alpert Foundation and other charitable sources. A nominal, non-refundable deposit is required of all applicants.
