One Korean has been confirmed missing in Phuket in the wake of massive tidal waves that smashed coastlines around southern Asia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) announced Sunday.

According to the ministry, a local travel agency of southern Thailand’s popular resort island reported that a 75-year-old Korean woman, identified as Bae, is missing after being washed away by the tidal waves while traveling in the region with her daughter. Bae’s 46-year-old daughter sustained injuries and has been hospitalized.

MOFAT is currently working to obtain more detailed information on the missing woman as well as if there are any additional Korean casualties from the disaster in cooperation with the Korean diplomatic and consular offices in the affected region.
