At the opening event of CES 2025, titled "CES Unveiled," a wave of emotionally intelligent robots combining robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and digital healthcare stole the spotlight. These innovations aim to address social issues such as loneliness and isolation by offering technological solutions in an increasingly hyperconnected world.

Held on January 5 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, two days before CES officially opened, the event showcased innovative award-winning products ahead of the main exhibition.

U.S.-based startup Tombot unveiled "Jennie," a robotic pet resembling a real dog. Unlike traditional, uncanny robotic designs, Jennie resembles a finely-crafted puppy plush toy. It mimics the sounds of a 12-month-old dog, recognizes voice commands, and features sensors enabling interactive communication.

Jennie isn’t designed simply to replace pets. Instead, it provides a realistic alternative for individuals who need the warmth of a pet but face challenges in caring for a live animal due to conditions like dementia, Parkinson’s disease, or severe depression.

French startup Enchanted Tools introduced "Mirokai," a semi-human, semi-animal robot designed with similar objectives. With a character-like face featuring pointed ears and spherical legs for mobility, Mirokai reduces the uncanny valley effect while its robotic arms assist with human tasks.

U.S. startup Bird Buddy showcased a smart birdhouse equipped with an AI-powered camera. Placed in yards or trees, the birdhouse not only allows users to observe birds as they feed but also identifies species via AI, categorizing frequent visitors and even helping users name them.

Pet healthcare technology also made a strong impression. An example is the smart collar introduced by U.S. startup Cuevra. Essentially a scaled-up smartwatch for pets, the collar monitors health metrics, activity levels, and provides location tracking, fulfilling the basic functions of a collar while offering added value.
